On my
magazine cover I want to display a neutral and calming tone. Therefor the blue hues on a light brown background. The title of "Education Information" is a neutral start. The
subtitle of "Just the facts - You Decide" gives the reader the
feeling that they are getting factual information without a hard sell one way
or the other. They will be able to decide what they take away from the articles
in the magazine.
The
main focus is a plain, ordinary picture of a book with the words "Common
Core State Standards = Conscience Commitment to Start Strong." Using these
words with the same first letter and the equal sign shows a positive
correlation. Making a commitment to use the Common Core to help our students
start strong. This indicates teaching the Common Core State Standards is
helping our students get off to a strong start. This is a positive use of
loaded language on the right hand page of the book.
The persuasive
technique with the student working in the Science lab is supposed to be
humorous in that the student is expected to think while in a learning
environment. This is positive humor as adults usually expect that there is thinking
with learning and that is going on in schools. The Cheerleader Cheering on the CCSS is using a
positive persuasive Bandwagon technique. Cheering is usually for at least a group of people.
It
appears that this magazine supports "out of the box" thinking and
technology. These are both positive aspects in teaching today.
The
bar code I choose has helping hands under it. This is to symbolize teachers in
the service profession helping students.
The
targeted audience is teachers or student teachers since there are two articles
on the front page about "thinking". This could also be for any adult
with questions about the Common Core State Standards or students who are
interested.
The
low price of $1.99 makes it affordable. The website listed by the price suggest
a free electronic version.

I like the subtitle, "Just the facts - You decide." I think it's very empowering to the reader. They will get the sense that the magazine contains unbiased information that they can use to make their own decision about educational issues...the Common Core being the main headline story. The play on the acronym is clever, and the little cartoon text bubble, along with the cheerleader image, are very supportive of and positive towards the standards. Everyone wants schools to make kids think! If nothing else makes teachers buy the magazine, the free technology giveaway might!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed looking at your magazine cover. You have different pictures that go with each article. I love the picture of the little boy that says "My teacher wants me to think". Looking at he cheerleader it appears that this magazine may support the common core. I think that your title is great and explains what your magazine is about. Everyone loves seeing different things for giveaway and I know that technology is a favorite. Each image that you have grabs your attention and tells you what each article is about in the magazine. I think you did a great job on your magazine.
ReplyDeleteDescribe the text:
ReplyDeleteThe text is that of a neutral standpoint which gives basic facts of the good and bad sides (so to say) of the common core debate. I especially like how the information is provided and the reader is left to make a decision on his or her own.
What do you see?
The first thing that catches my eye is the words “think” and the articles that are listed about thinking. I’m not sure if this is because I am a teacher or not, but I immediately want to read more after seeing those headlines or “sneak peeks”. Therefore, I would go out on a limb to say that you are targeting teachers with this magazine, more specifically those teachers that have questions about common core.
Explain the subtext:
I think that this magazine is supporting common core and is out to explain and maybe answer some questions about, and/or, inform teachers on common core. The title explains exactly what the magazine and articles within it stand for, as well as the images that you chose! This is a very well thought through cover! Nice job!
