I thought this might be more about where the
sticks were played and why. It was actually about Josh Charles' decision to play drums and why he chose to do so.
I
chose this one because I hoped it would be fun about making things out of clay,
molding your life, etc. I was right. I wish him good luck with his Claymation.
Story three - New Hope New Life by Sameer

I
watched this because it is always good to be reminded of people coming to
America because of their hope of a better life. It reminds me of how lucky I am
to be living in America.
I
watched this because I thought it might be comical about some missing stuff of the author's. It wasn't.
I was
interested to see this take on male eating disorders. I recently met a male
that has an eating disorder where he is always hungry. This story was about a male teen thinking he was fat when he wasn't.
I liked that the film was made with real people and you are watching it happen. Not clips and narration. So you feel like you are there when the story is happening.
I learned that some males
have eating disorders like girls do.
I was surprised by the
violence coming out of the young man to his mother. And that he didn’t eat the
piece of cake to satisfy his mother.
The social problem addressed was eating disorders in male teens.
This video was similar to a PSA because it was addressed result of an issue that is not talked about much. It could help build self-esteem by making teenage males aware of this problem. Letting them know they are not alone. Maybe low self-esteem is what makes them have the eating disorder in the first place.
It appears that these students make a film based on something in their life. The student must be engaged because they have to present it. Therefore they have to address the topic. There must be some work done on this video. It is not something you do in a few minutes without thinking about it, gathering information or shots and putting it together.
I would say these digital stories support a healthy respect for multiculturalism and diversity because of the topics that are addressed in the ten that I viewed. I chose five out of the ten for the assignment. I only found a couple uplifting.
I agree with you; I like the way this film was made. It's more like I'm part of it rather than me just being talked at. Honestly, when I think of eating disorders, my mind instantly goes to females. This issue doesn't seem to be so mainstream with males. I bet this was a hard issue for this young man to deal with, and I bet he felt very alone. With his video, I hope that he can help someone else that may be in his shoes.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both of you. I really liked how they made this video. I think a lot of people can relate to the beginning with the boy not being the fastest person on the team, looking at themselves in the mirror, and some even weigh themselves to see if they are where they want to be. I hate seeing people that aren't happy with themselves, but I can relate to him. I hate when people talk about others weight or how they look. I always feel bad for the parents as well, because they sometimes don't realize that their child has an eating disorder. I agree with Amanda, I hope that this video can help others that are feeling the same way he is.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Allen,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your post. The topic of body image issues and eating disorders is extremely important and deserves any and all attention it can get. After watching videos like this and reading other stories, it is becoming increasing apparent that we need more attention on young men to confront body image issues and eating disorders. We need to be asking more questions: how common is this in all young people? How common are eating disorders in both girls and boys? To some extent, I am sure all people struggle with body image issues, so this should be indicative that like young women, young men are not safe from eating disorders and body images issues.
Thank you very much for sharing this,
